Exercise physiology services are increasingly covered by private health insurance policies in Australia.

Eligible clients may be able to claim rebates for Exercise Physiology services through their private health insurance, depending on their level of cover. Rebates and eligibility vary between providers.

Here are some key points to consider:

  • Coverage: Many private health insurers include exercise physiology services under their extras cover, which is a range of  out-of-hospital services not usually covered by Medicare.
  • Eligibility: To receive a rebate, the treatment must aim to prevent, delay, or ameliorate a chronic disease or injury. General fitness programs are not covered.
  • Claiming: After paying for a session in full, you can claim your rebate from your insurer either online or in person.
  • Verification: Ensure that exercise physiology is covered under your policy and verify ESSA accreditation to confirm the  provider’s qualifications.

Clients are encouraged to check with their private health insurer to confirm available rebates and coverage details.
